Mayschoss is one of the most well known wine areas of the Ahr Valley, and rightly so. In addition to the charming, natural setting of the Ahr Valley, Mayschoss has some fascinating and unique offerings.
High above the resort the ruins of the Saffenburg castle are located on a steep cliff. The famous red wine of the Ahr region grows on the green slopes.
The Mayschoss winegrowers’ cooperative is worth visiting. It’s the oldest cooperative of its kind in Germany and also one of the best. The Mayschoss -Altenahr cooperative was founded in 1868 and was recently recognized for its outstanding achievements with three Gault-Millaut-Grapes.
The regular wine tastings, wine seminars, and theme days with wine hikes and samplings in the wine cellar are highly recommended.
The famous village festivals take place twice a year—the wine blossom festival in June and the wine festival in October. Every month locals and guests celebrate the number one product of the region—wine. Winegrowers then invite all guests to the local bars and pubs.
In Laach, you can partake of a special attraction: Germany’s largest full tree stem bridge. It’s built from indigenous Douglasien wood and spans the Ahr River with a length of 29.2 meters.
